You Only Get What You Give

November 6, 2009

Okay, so I watched the Cavaliers and Bulls game and had a couple thoughts, actually a lot of thoughts, not all of which is directly related to the actual play of the game. I could have just done a list of random thoughts but I thought it might be better if I explained my thoughts as to leave no confusion about exactly what I am saying. Read the rest of this entry »

Season Preview: Cleveland Cavaliers

October 27, 2009

cleveland_cavaliers_by_Pixel_Reborn_1600x1200
For the Cleveland Cavaliers history does not matter. For a franchise that owns one division title and one Eastern Conference title, there is not much to be said about the team’s history. Sure the Cavs have come close a couple of times, and even with past franchise studs like Austin Carr, Mark Price, and Brad Dougherty, the Cavs have never been within reach of the Championship the City of Cleveland desires.

The International Game

July 1, 2009

rickyrubio

The game of basketball is an international affair, and has been so for quite some time now. It was no more apparent than at the 2004 Olympics when the United States failed to bring home the gold. The foreigners have invaded the Association and added some new flavors to the basketball soup.

I personally blame the influx of foreign ballers on Toni Kukoc. Before Kukoc broke into the league on Jordan’s Bulls, a foreign player was very alien to the Association and its many fans (sans Hakeem Olajuwon). He would lie low for a few years until his Airness’ retirement after the ’93 championship. He would then take center stage, playing Robin to Scottie Pippen’s Batman. That was until the playoffs however, when Jedi Phil Jackson designed a play at the end of a game where Kukoc, not Pippen, would take the game winning shot. Instead of complying, Pippen remained seated on the bench while Kukoc subsequently took and made said shot and won the game for the Bulls. Toni would stay on the Bulls until after they won their second Three-peat, when he would leave to bounce around the league until his retirement.

The Calm before the Storm

June 9, 2009

letsmakeadealWith all of the focus on the 2010 free agent class, this upcoming class is being overlooked. Not without substantial talent, the free agent class of 2009 has the ability to change the direction of a team or hinder their development. Read the rest of this entry »

Varejao Opts Out

June 2, 2009

While a player opting out of their contract is generally not a very notable occurence, Anderson Varejao opting out of his contract in addition to rumours of Ben Wallace retiring cast an unfortunate shadow upon the Cavaliers franchise. Of course, Varejao issued a statement saying that he would prefer to stay in Cleveland and that’s to be expected and nothing may come of this except a minor raise for him as he certainly enjoyed his best season yet starting 42 games and reaching career highs in points, rebounds, and blocks. What makes this newsworthy is the timing, coming just two days after the Cavaliers’ defeat to the Magic. This, in addition to Wallace musing on retirement, shows signs of players abandoing what they may perceive to be a sinking ship. All of this pales in comparision in the upcoming speculation over the next year over whether LeBron will or won’t opt out next year and a lack of Varejao and/or Wallace may factor into his decision.

The Wussification of the NBA

May 30, 2009

manuOver the last couple of decades, the Association has seen a rise in complaints about foul calls, and it’s no secret why: there is a wussification occurring in the NBA. Everyone sees the blatant and disgusting flops by supposedly adult men while players attempt to drive to the basket.
